Makes Sense works with International Contractors to make UK contracting easy!
Our client, Mr RL, an International Contractor, had always contracted through his company in his home country. He was offered his dream contract by a Global IT Company. He thought it would be a great experience for him to further his career and there was a great contract rate.
RL had never worked in the UK and was surprised when his agency said he couldn’t work through his overseas company. He thought taxes would be higher in the UK and that he would have to pay them in his home country as well.
His agency referred him to UK Ltd company providers who are very good at explaining UK tax law, but didn’t have the knowledge to explain cross-border taxation and social security.
When Mr RL met with our International Taxation Experience Specialist Tim Hammond, also our Director of Sales, he explained that he was worried about UK taxes and also having to pay tax again in home country. Tim explained the double taxation treaty between the UK and Mr RL’s home country which resulted in Mr RL learning that he was not going to be taxed twice on the same income.
Tim also talked him through the application for National Insurance number (as the NI office had provided incorrect information) and provided a supporting letter for him.
Mr RL’s NI number was issued within 2 weeks.
Tim also set up Ltd Company for Mr RL, registered his payroll and VAT. We now also do his invoicing, book-keeping and annual accounts.
“I can’t believe I nearly turned down my dream contract because I was worried about double taxation and getting into the UK system. Meeting Tim from Makes Sense was the best thing that happened as his knowledge of UK and International taxes is second to none. Tim quickly understood my situation and gave me the right advice.
I have now been on their Platinum Package for 6 months and it’s great! All I do is email my timesheet and expenses to Makes Sense. They invoice my agency; do my book-keeping and payroll. This means I am no longer doing my admin at the weekend and have extra time to spend with my family!” (RL)
